Mashable: Charles Leclerc has faced a challenging start to the season.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc has openly acknowledged his difficulty in keeping up with teammate Carlos Sainz during qualifying sessions in the ongoing 2024 Formula 1 season. The Monegasque driver admitted that Sainz has outperformed him in recent races, particularly in qualifying, where Leclerc has historically excelled.

So far this season, Sainz has showcased impressive form, currently sitting fourth in the drivers' championship despite missing a race due to appendicitis. His victory in Australia, shortly after recovering from surgery, highlights his resilience and skill on the track.

Meanwhile, Leclerc has faced a challenging start to the season, with only two podium finishes to his name. Notably, he has struggled to replicate his previous strong qualifying performances, which were once considered his forte.

Speaking to motorsportweek.com, Leclerc acknowledged Sainz's superiority, particularly in qualifying, attributing his teammate's success to consistent strong performances. Leclerc highlighted the importance of nailing the out-lap and finding the right tire temperature, areas where he has encountered difficulties in 2024.

"In the last two races, he’s just been stronger. So it’s up to me now to work, especially in the qualifying phase, which is normally a strength. I’ve been struggling to put the lap together," Leclerc remarked.

Adding to the discourse, Spanish F1 pundit Antonio Lobato emphasized Sainz's prowess in qualifying compared to Leclerc. Lobato noted that while Leclerc may have had a better showing in the Japanese GP, Sainz consistently demonstrated greater speed during qualifying sessions throughout the season.

"Inside Ferrari, Carlos has something more in qualifying. Charles did a great race, we have to admit that. But Carlos is more solid and he is more at ease with the Ferrari at the moment," Lobato commented.

As Ferrari looks ahead to the future, the team has announced a significant driver lineup change for the 2025 season. Lewis Hamilton is set to replace Sainz, joining Leclerc in what promises to be an intriguing partnership.

With Sainz departing after the current season, Leclerc faces the imperative task of regaining his qualifying prowess to maintain his competitive edge within the team.
